Each month, the Her Blaze team has the difficult job of choosing an artist to feature. This month, we are excited to share that our 10th featured artist is Darla Jade!
Darla is an up and coming electro-pop artist from Stoke on Trent, UK. Her music is something that can often be heard here in the Her Blaze office.
It is safe to say we have all become huge fans and we cannot wait to see where her amazing talent takes her. In fact, we strongly believe that she deserves for the world to hear her music.
Writing a review this month is definitely something I have enjoyed. I mean, there is nothing better than having to listen to great music for work.
And, I haven’t had the privilege of doing an art review for a musician. This song titled, “Ghost in Me” is one that definitely makes the listener take notice.
This song and video are both very touching. You can feel her emotion in her singing.
And, if you focus on the lyrics, you can feel how emotional this song really is. It allows you to feel as if you are in this unhealthy relationship that appears to be over.
Some of the lyrics really pulled on my heartstrings.
“I can see your ghost in me. I am not who I used to be.” Honestly, that can be interpreted in different ways I am sure.
And, I will be honest, being “wrong” in my interpretation is one of my biggest fears. To me, I feel as if she is talking about how this relationship has changed who she is.
The mark or impression left on her by this other person changed her. This happens with all relationships, but the angst and pain in her voice tells me that the changes were not necessarily good ones.
She goes on to sing, “This is bittersweet, now I am incomplete”. This lyric might be the one that brought me to tears.
People and relationships certainly change us. The thought that losing someone so important that you feel incomplete is devastating.
I don’t know how someone can listen to this song without feeling the break-up and loss. Every note she sings just adds to the feeling of being alone, makes me feel the loss as if I lived it.
There are so many lyrics that stood out to me but the last one I wanted to talk about is “I wish I could meet the man you could have been”.
Is this her way of admitting she knew he was ‘all wrong’ for her but focused on the good things she saw?
Or maybe this was her realizing that she was in love with the potential but not the person. Either way, this song makes me feel all sorts of things.
As with any art, the more emotionally connected I am, the more I like the piece. This song, and all of Darla’s music, is no exception.
I want to leave you to listen to Darla’s music.
But, before I do, I wanted to share something that Jennifer Lopez said. “You have to remember the value of your individuality-that you have something special and different to offer that nobody else can.”
We here at Her Blaze hope that Darla understands how truly unique her musical talent is.
We know that she will continue to write and sing beautiful music and it is only a matter of time before the entire world takes notice and she becomes a household name!
People in California and New York will be scrambling to see sold-out shows, and we will be first in line.
