Happy National Beach Day! What a great way to start the week. I don’t know about you, but there are two ways everyone should celebrate.
The first, and most obvious, would be to go to the beach. The second?
Have a beach themed art challenge! There are so many ways an artist can participate in this challenge and we hope to see many submissions.
As Oprah Winfrey said, “having the courage to stand up and pursue your dreams will give you life’s greatest reward and life’s greatest adventure.”
This challenge, and every challenge, is a way to show your courage.
What do you think when I say beach? Is it the seashells and sharks teeth you can find in the sand?
Maybe it is surfing, fishing or swimming? What about all the wildlife?
Hatching baby turtles, sand crabs, little birds or even a dolphin?
For Sylvie, she utilized photography. But other Her Blaze artists use driftwood sculptures, relief sculptures with sand and seashells, painting on agates, rare stones and crystals, and resin art.
Our Social Media Director and I have even attempted our own nature art piece using shells and seaweed that washed up on our local beach. The possibilities for this challenge are endless.
Another Her Blaze artist, Kristin Frost created the piece below, that captures the beach even without color!
Some beaches I’d love to see as part of this challenge are Baker Beach in San Francisco, Constitution Beach in Boston, Virginia Beach in Virginia and Rutherford Beach in Louisiana.
Another great way to participate in this week’s challenge is to show all the weather systems and how they impact your local beach. Just this week alone, there is a hurricane, a cyclone, a thunderstorm, and a tornado.
Before you set off to complete your beach themed art, I wanted to share a quote by Ed Asner. He said, “we all moan and groan about the loss of the quality of life through the destruction of our ecology, and yet every one of us, in our own little comfortable ways, contributes daily to that destruction. It’s time now to awaken in each one of us the respect and attention our beloved Mother deserves.”
With the news of Asner’s passing yesterday, let’s honor him with this challenge. Let’s also make it one that shows the love and respect Mother Nature deserves.
Let’s make it sustainable!
Whether you live in Baltimore or Miami, Pittsburgh or Dallas, there is a beach near you. Freshwater or saltwater, your beach is perfect for this challenge.
Yemen or Afghanistan, Argentina or Pakistan. It doesn’t matter your location or the beach location. In fact, you don’t even have to physically go to a beach.
Just use your creativity and imagination to create a unique and beautiful piece of art that you consider “beach themed”.
Head over to Her Blaze for submission requirements. Comment below and let us know if you plan on participating!
