Some weeks, as Monday nears, I get these grand ideas about the newest art challenge. Today, coming up with a challenge I was happy with was difficult.

Don’t get me wrong, I had some pretty cool ideas. The one I decided on might not be everyone’s favorite but I felt like it was a challenge that was needed right now.

It is quite possible we’ve done a similar challenge but I am comfortable in the choice to do it again.

Activism is something that is really important to me.

I have always felt strongly about the following  statement made by Martin Luther King Jr., “our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

I found an amazing ink pen artist, Adedokun who created the piece below from charcoal. I am in complete awe of his amazing talent.

There are so many ‘hot button’ issues in the world today, especially in the United States. The one that really pulls on my heart strings is the Texas abortion law.

In a country with the status and power of the United States, women should never have to fight for their basic rights. Yet, time and again, they do.

And this is not simply an attack on women. It is an attack on minority women and women from poorer communities.

As Beyoncé said, “I truly believe the women should be financially independent from their men. And let’s face it, money gives men the power to run the show.

It gives men the power to define value. They define what’s sexy.

And men define what’s feminine. It’s ridiculous.”

Another topic that has taken the country by storm is that of COVID.

To vaccinate or not to vaccinate? Mask or no mask?

With the new mu variant, I simply wish people would care more. Maybe you will survive COVID.

But what about the immuno-compromised person you pass it to? We are far too selfish to think about others allowing this pandemic to continue to take our country hostage.

Her Blaze artist Ai Candi has a few pieces that would fit this week’s challenge. The piece below is one of my personal favorites.

Simple but profound. It grabs your attention instantly.

That is what a true activist does!

Activism can mean many things. Being an activist and an artist opens up a world of possibility.

It also opens one up to a world of hate. Let’s help remove that stigma and give artists a safe platform to share their activism themed art.

Not sure what stance to take? There are so many ideas.

Anything human rights related would be a start. Let’s not forget environmental and animal rights.

If your art sends the message of equality or has a positive social impact, that’s exactly what we are looking for. Need more inspiration?

Check out artist David Hammons. He creates amazingly unique art that will bring tears to your eyes.

Head over to Her Blaze to submit your activism art for this week’s challenge! We can’t wait to share your message with the world.
