It’s Monday, so you’re expecting a “Challenge Blog”, so that’s what you’ll get. But, it’s also a blog to introduce to you one of our amazing Her Blaze artists.
I am so excited to introduce another Her Blaze artist to you today.
Felipe Guzmán is a very talented origami artist from Valparaíso, Chile. He first discovered origami in primary school but it didn’t stick.
It wasn’t until later in life that he started perfecting his paper folding skills.
Felipe has many talents, including writing poetry so it is fair to say he is an artist at heart.
As with all of our artists, Felipe is more than his art. He plays guitar, speaks three languages and loves Star Wars and The Beatles!
He loves Star Wars so much that he even created his own origami C3PO and R2D2. Check it out below !
In 2014, he started studying English-Spanish translations. But he has a very admirable trait and that is, he wanted to be happy and love what he does. Translation just wasn’t it.
Chilean Sign Language caught his attention and the following year, by chance, he had to teach math to a deaf teenager.
As George Michael said, “you’ll never find peace of mind until you listen to your heart.” Felipe listened to his heart and followed it right to learning Chilean sign language! And he wants to combine that with his love of origami.
That is definitely something we can support!
Felipe now lives in Santiago while studying special needs pedagogy. It is his goal to specialize in deaf people education and become a sign language interpreter.
What I love about Felipe is he plans to teach origami to deaf, blind and disabled people. I agree with him that people of all abilities deserve the chance to learn this amazing art form!
I wonder if he will teach his origami students to make all the amazing animals he has created. I especially adore the fox he made. Check it out!
His creativity knows no limits. He has an amazing witch, perfect since it is officially Halloween season! He has a really cool unicorn, cats, dinosaurs, penguins and even a camera.
Now, I recently tried to create some origami as a gift so I can tell you that these paper art pieces are incredibly detailed and very difficult.
Felipe has some amazing talent. But even more important than that, he is an artist with great character and a giving heart.
We are incredibly grateful to have him as part of the Her Blaze family.
We will leave you to head over to Felipe’s Instagram page, we also want to take a moment and remind you that today last week was National Bullying Prevention Day.
As Felipe is very accepting of people who have different abilities, I know he’d want to encourage you all to be kind and accepting of one another!
As Former President Barack Obama said, “Each of us deserves the freedom to pursue our own version of happiness. No one deserves to be bullied!”
In honor of Felipe, let’s make today another Origami challenge, with a twist – to make the Origami of something you love!
If you or someone you know is an origami artist, send them to the Her Blaze website and encourage them to submit their art!
We’d love to add a few more creative and talented origami artists to our family.
