Most people wake up with a case of the “Mondays”. I’m most people.
Except, for me, that isn’t dread for starting another long work week. It is excitement for a new art challenge.
I love the intense feeling I get anticipating all the creative and unique submissions we might get. This week’s challenge is a fun one.
I want to see “functional” art!!!!
I know what you’re thinking. What does she mean “functional”?
Well, I’m about to tell you.
Artists are so creative in coming up with ways to display their art. For this challenge, it isn’t the art painted on a canvas that I want to see.
Is your art displayed on a shirt? Or maybe a purse or shoes? That is exactly what I mean by functional.
CJ French is an artist who has created so many amazing pieces that are perfect for this challenge.
Just look at the detail in this beautiful surfboard. She has also hand painted helmets and even roller skates.
I’m not a surfer but I would definitely want to rock a hand painted, one of a kind surfboard if I did.
I love this pillow! And it certainly fits the challenge for this week.
If you head over to her Instagram page, you can see this particular print on a skirt and even a comforter.
All functional art!!!
Still not sure how your art fits this challenge? I have seen custom painted Justice League shoes.
Or what about those crazy sports fans who represent their teams in the most crazy ways? You know the type.
They commission artists to make a Cowboys shirt or a Patriots hat? Just another idea of how to create functional art for this week’s challenge.
3 Keys To A Successful Blogging Career
If you’re an artist, I hope you share the same mindset as actor Taylor Lautner.
He said, “I love challenging myself, doing different things, and exploring different areas that I haven’t been to or gone to before.”
If you haven’t tried to create functional art, I hope you join us in this challenge. This is one of my favorite challenges because it is one I plan on participating in.

You will also have a blog written all about you. In addition to that, you will regularly be mentioned in future blogs.
While you think about what you want to create, comment below other ideas of functional art. Maybe your ideas will inspire another artist.
Also share with us your favorite artist who creates functional art. We’ll be sure to “like” their social media pages!
Let’s spread the love to all the amazing artists you know!
