Artist Bio

I’m Silke de Rapper, I live in the Netherlands and I’m a 14 year old self-taught braider. I always wanted to have long hair and I started doing my own hair when I was 6 years old. A few years later, when I was 11 years old, I got my first mannequin head. I actually don’t know how it happened, but one day I just really wanted to learn how to do any kind of braids, and I got super interested and fascinated at hair. So when I got my mannequin, I immediately started doing my first style on it. I remember I first did a diagonal half up dutchbraid, which I saw on YouTube. One year later when I was 12, I was scrolling to my Instagram and I saw so many pictures of hairstyles, and I loved it! I decided I would start my own Instagram page for my hairstyles, and I was so excited about all the new braiding techniques I discovered.

I met so many amazing people on Instagram, and they all have the same interests, braiding! I became friends with a lot of hair artists, and I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to meet all of them. Everyone was so welcoming and supportive, and that made me even more excited, my love for hair and braids was growing every day. I learned how to do simple braids first, but later I learned the intricate ones too, they were tricky and it took a lot of practice, but I loved it. And now I can do so many different braiding techniques, I definitely can’t do them all, I’m still learning, but I’m surprised that I actually learned so much in just a few years.

I’m really into tight braids at the moment, but I hope to get better at looser styles (like bridal styles) too, and I’m definitely going to practice them a lot more. One day I hope to find a new braiding technique, which doesn’t already exist, this would be a really intricate thing, because there are just so many techniques.

My goal for my Instagram page is to reach 5000 followers once in the future, which is a really big goal, but I hope we can hit it at some point.

And actually, I don’t really have a dream. But I hope to never stop braiding, and getting better at it.
