My name is Sylvie Pouilliaux Bridelance. I discovered mosaic art during my trips to the Mediterranean countries, such as Italy and Greece. Since then, I have been fascinated by this ancient art and through my work I aspire to perpetuate this antique work. While creating a piece of mosaic, I feel in communion with the Antiquity. It is like a ticket to a journey through time. During my trips, I also found inspiration while discovering the Gaudi masterpieces, some painters like Salvador Dalí and Picasso, and Spanish and Portuguese azulejos. I love the design and the vibrant colors they use.
Furthermore, I am a nature lover. As I often wander in the nature, I take photos for the plants and other wonders only nature can offer us. The unique designs of the natural elements are another inspiration for my pieces of mosaic. Creating such pieces is also a good way to take my time and meditate.
Mosaic art lets me create pictures from diverse materials: spectrum glass, Roman tassels, briar, pieces of mirror, and sometimes broken plates and some natural items like shells and pieces of slate. Instead of applying colors with a brush, I use wire cutters and tweezers to cut and arrange the different materials on a woody base. To create a piece of mosaic, I use the Roman technics, like the "opus vermiculatum", the "opus circumactum", the "opus plalladium", and much more. I also create some everyday items: lamps, mirrors, tables, jewelry boxes, fruit saucers...
I invite you to dream through my mosaics and wander through different countries and times.
